loftus tracks

Unread postby kolden » Thu Oct 05, 2006 11:14 am

Hello there,
I just got my greedy hands on an original Lofts CD. Thanks for the great music and for the artwork, it was worth the hassle (for people still searching for califone and loftus rarities, I can only recommend http://www.redeye.com.au/ , they had deceleration 1+2, everybodys mother ...).

I have one question though:
The CD has ten tracks and is 42:53 min long.

Why does every internet source tell me it is supposed to have 13 tracks? Also on the back of the CD are 13 tracknames. Where are the other three tracks, is there anything wrong with my CD?

Thanks and greetings

I'll have to check it out when I get home.

For the time being, though, you can probably get an idea of whether it's real by looking at the sleeve that it came in.

Is it handmade with sandpaper on it?

Also- does the disc have drawings of teeth on it?

teeth and sandpaper are there. cd is no cdr. overall apperance is quite genuine I would say.

Thanks so far. I appreciate if you take a look at the tracknumbers of your cd at home very much. Although I am beginning to think this might just be a tricky numbering scheme by loftus itself....

I've had two copies of the Loftus disc and they both had that tracklist discrepancy. I think you're right....it's just craftiness on their part.

Great album. One I revisit often; ought to be oftener. High fives all around!

I just checked freedb2.org and they have two versions of the loftus cd listed,
both with a similar lengh of a little under 43 minutes but one with 10 tracks and the other with 11 tracks. Now I am even more confused...
What would the real tracklist be?
Which songs go together to make one track?
And why am I a sawtooth?

Mine has 11 tracks and I know it's legit. I bought it at a Califone show.

Here are the tracks:

Raisin
Emma's Rubber Leg
Haywine
Stolen From A Rifle Clean Brothel
King Carp In A Dan Ryan Ditch
Theme From Loftus Nine
Nervous
Bell & Hammer
Penguin Boy's Love Song
When The Electricity Goes Out In The Submarine
Marlon Perkins

7 Nervous 5:07
8 Bell and Hammer 5:03
9 Penguin Boy's Love Story 4:03

7 Nervous/ Bell and Hammer 5:07
8 Penguin Boy's Love Story 9:06

Two of the songs are obviously mushed together on the 10 track CD, but the track listing is still wrong. Take a look at how long "Penguin Boy" is on the second example.

My guess is that somehow Bell And Hammer got mushed into Penguin Boy.

Hello loper,

I assume that the overall runtime of your cd is also close to 43 minutes?

This all leeds me to this summary:

there are at least 2 versions of the cd:

one with eleven tracks on the cd and also eleven tracks listed on the back

and one with ten tracks on the cd but thirteen tracks listed on the back

but still they basically contain the same material because on the ten track cd track 8 and 9 are put together to form track 8

That's what I'm thinking.

I can't say for sure how long the CD is right now because it's on my internetPod.

Either way- you can still know for sure if it's official- is the sleeve handmade or is it printed?

Its handmade with some golden printing and sandpaper and all. Opposite to the cd there is a cardbord enevloped on which the performers are listed (eight persons that is, will we find some discrepancies here as well ;-)) also the recording date and some tooth are printed on this card.

It was a cruel evil trick to keep you on your toes... Slip the disc in your cd player...turn it on...let the rest of the world drift away...track numbers no longer matter

i have the 11 track cd.
track 8 is Bell and Hammer, and track 11 is Blind (both titles are in the lyrics)
Track 9 has three distinct parts, I think the intro is Penguin Boy's Love Story, the main song is When the Electricity Goes Out in the Submarine, and the outro is Marlon Perkins.

Does anyone know if the everybodys mother vol 1 is a CDR originally?
I have just opened my copy (which I received with the loftus cd) for the first time and saw that it is a CDR.
The packaging looks quite genuine. Very handmade, cardbord with some painting over newspaper cutouts also a piece of paper with the tracklist.

Yeah, it's a CD-R. The sleeve for each one is different.

this is from an e-mail i received from ben a few years ago. like any good califone fan, i kept it. hope this helps.don't worry - no shaft. there are 11 index points, but 13 songs (some are short interlude pieces).

we merged 3 songs under one index point - i forget which one now - maybe track 9.

that's it. penguin boy's love story / when the electricity goes out in the submarine / marlon perkins - they're all on track 9. we were young & reckless back then. if we re-press it, we might straighten that out. there are only 3 copies left, so...

glad you got it before we ran out. glad you like it, too.

were you at a califone show recently or did you order from the website? just curious.

hope all's well,
ben

wow. after a bunch of unsuccessful attempts at ordering the album online (places that don't update what they actually have in stock), i finally got my hands on the loftus disc. it was at a used record store here in toronto for 7 bucks. rediculous.

the record is great and was well worth the anticipation.

if anyone's interested, they actually had two copies. the other one had a slight tear in one of the corners of the cardsleeve, and the disc was a little bit scuffed, but apparently it plays through fine. also 7 dollars.

sonic boom - located at bloor and bathurst.

not sure how many of you are from the t-dot, but hey...

Yeah, it's definitely one of my favorite albums.
