Current Iron & Wine lineup

I saw Iron & Wine a few weeks ago and was surprised when I saw Ben, Jim and Joe walk out on stage. I would love to get a copy of one of the shows with them as his band if anyone out there has a decent recording.
I really dug the way Beam's old songs were deconstructed and rebuilt. It was lovely.

Yeah, hopefully I'll be able to see them on this tour. I knew that some of Califone was touring with them -- didn't know the extent. Looking forward to the new CD.

There is a chance that there will be studio recordings of Mr. Beam's current line up. The band rehearsed for this next round of I&W tours at Clava and all of it was recorded. There is more to come in January before they head to Europe, too, and I know that stuff will be recorded as well. I haven't heard any of it, but apparently there's a disc for me at Ben's that I just haven't picked up yet.

I haven't seen Ben so excited about music making and the prospects for a tour in a LONG time, and he and I have been friends since 1979. For him to be as giddy as he was about those first rehearsals, this has to be one special band. Go if you can. The tour schedule is on the I&W home page.

Looks like NPR will be streaming a live Iron & Wine performance tonight. Presumably, the band will include the Califone boys.

I&W also did a brief thing today on WNYC. Not sure what it entails, though.

the Thursday night Hideout show was completely mindbending. So, so good. Eleven people on stage and all of them moving as one unit.

It was a private evening (attendance by invite only), mostly for the purposes of rehearsal prior to leaving for Europe again. Earlier in the evening (before the set I attended) there was apparently a taping for a certain radio station in Chicago. I'm told the music portion of that was even better executed than what I saw. Hard to believe you could top the set I was witness to, but there ya go.

go see this incarnation of I&W, and not simply because friends of this board are in the ensemble. Go see them because they are a shit hot group of people making fantastic music.

Well, at least I don't feel so bad for missing the Hideout show if it was private...just saw some photos posted online. They'll be back in the area again in early June, playing in Milwaukee, not sure where and in Indianapolis at the Vogue, which is a nice place to see a show. Saw Son Volt there a few years ago with Fruit Bats opening.
